Enjoying the Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time to gather and give thanks for all the things we are grateful for.  In theory this is great, but with the stress of cooking, spending money, large gatherings, and over consumption we can become overwhelmed.

As you prepare for your holiday season remember that taking care of yourself is as important as caring for all your loved ones.

Easy steps to make your day more enjoyable

Gratitude

First thing in the morning, take a moment of gratitude. This sets you up for the day ahead. Myself, I like to make it easy and think of three things I’m grateful for. Don’t over think it, it can be a person, the sun shining in your room, the comfy bed you are laying in. Anything that makes you feel good.

Move

Moving your body (especially before your gatherings) is so beneficial. First, your body needs daily movement to function properly and second, this will help reduce stress. Everyday throughout the season choose a movement that you enjoy and feel good doing. Make a commitment and be consistent.

Breathe

When things get overwhelming BREATHE. Step away for a few minutes and take come breaths. The video is an easy demonstration of a calming breath technique.

Hydrate

Believe it or not hydration can contribute to anxiety. Hydration contributes to the way the body and brain function. Water keeps the body functioning properly by transporting nutrients to the organs along with digestion which contributes to optimal gut health. When these systems are not functioning properly the body sends signals of ANXIETY, dizziness, headaches and fatigue. Set yourself up for success and  DRINK WATER!

Happy Holidays!
