What is a health coach?

A health coach is someone who helps support you to make healthy lifestyle changes to feel your best.

Health coaching offers:

  • Accountability
    It’s easy to start something new, but the follow-through can be challenging. A coach will hold you accountable.
  • Support
    Change is hard! It is nice to have someone on your team cheering you on. Life is busy, having a coach help you find balance can be life-changing.
  • Realistic goals
    A health coach will meet you where you are at and help you attain your personal goals. As a coach, the goals I focus on are long-term, not quick-fix diets or exercise programs. The goals are things that you can implement into your everyday routine to feel better.

But why?

Sure, you can google recipes or watch YouTube exercise videos, but does this hold you accountable? Many people know what they should be doing yet there is nothing wrong with getting support. Turning to a professional can be very helpful. People hire financial planners to help with money, tutors to help with learning obstacles, trainers to get better at a sport. Health coaches are no different, they help with health and wellness, some of life’s most important goals. As we all know, feeling good makes life better!

How long do I work with a health coach?

Because a health coach meets you where you are, the timing can vary. Some people need a “reset” and want to work with a coach for a month. This could mean tips on getting back in the kitchen and cooking or being held accountable to move more. More often people hire a coach for four to six months. It takes time for changes to take place. When working with a coach over a longer period of time, implementing lasting changes is greater. With adequate tools, the hope is that we don’t totally fall apart after a lazy summer or the lengthy holiday season.
